PARTICIPATION
Why Participate? In the face of the Baby Boomer onslaught you need to make sure your practice is operating efficiently in comparison to your peers. Benefits for practices who submit completed data to the survey include:
- Access to reliable, specific financial and patient-flow benchmarks.
- Reporting module allows practices to compare their own figures to all of the practices in the database, or to narrow down the comparisons to offices that are more similar to theirs. There is a requirement that any subset of practices used in a comparison have at least 15 members, so that the benchmark isn’t skewed by one unusual submission (and in compliance with FTC guidelines).
- Only those who participate in the benchmarking survey whose data is approved have access to the results.
- Confidential online database designed to ensure the privacy and security of the data you submit - Review Academy Terms of Service & Privacy Policy (PDF 60K) for complete details.
3 Steps to Participate
Step 1: Practice Registration
Make sure you are eligible to participate in the survey (details below) and then log in with your Academy/AAOE username and password. Note: If you registered for FY 2006 and/or FY 2007, you do NOT need to register for FY 2008, your demographic data has been saved.
Register Now
• In order to register you must enter your practice’s Federal Tax ID.
• Only ONE set of data is allowed per practice. Therefore ONLY one individual per practice should be designated as the authorized data entry person (respondent), and only one user-account will be issued by the Academy per practice.
Step 2: Practice Data Entry
Fiscal Year 08 data entry will open in early 2009.
Step 3: Aggregate Data & Reporting Tools
Members will be notified when submitted data has been approved.

REPORTING, ELLIGIBILITY & GENERAL FINDINGS
Survey Reporting - Access the reporting tools once your data has been approved. You will need to login using your Academy/AAOE login name/password and then enter the Benchmarking login name and password you created when you registered.
- Please note: Identifiers specific to your practice will be stripped from the final data set, and the number of data sets displayed in the reporting tools (either the complete aggregate set or any filtered set as defined by the user) must be equal to or greater than fifteen (15) complete data sets.
- Tools are provided to help you interpret your data.
- Reporting tools are only available to users whose data has been submitted as final and approved.
Survey Elligibility
In order to complete this benchmarking survey and access the subsequent reporting tools, you must be reporting data for a medical practice. For this survey, we are defining a medical practice as a single legal entity or collection of legal entities consisting of one or more physicians who deliver health care services.
At this time, the following organizations may not complete the benchmarking survey:
- Integrated Delivery System (IDS)
- Independent Practice Association (IPA)
- Management Services Organization (MSO)
- Physician Practice Management Company (PPMC)
- Hospitals
- Free Standing ambulatory Surgery Centers
- Medical school facility practice plans
- Medical school clinical science departments
- Any other type of organization that owns, manages, or provides services to medical practices
We intend to expand the benchmarking survey to other practice settings. For more information, please contact us
